Language courses – German as a foreign language
The Institut für Sprachen in Kassel offers German courses from beginner level A1 to advanced level C2. Furthermore, the IfS course catalogue includes specialised and supplementary courses as courses for TestDaF exam preparation, courses for study preparation and intensive conversation training.

Grading tests
After your arrival at IfS, we conduct a grading test to be able to assign you to the correct level. The grading test includes a written test and an interview. Feel free to contact us to make an appointment for a test or to ask any questions you may have!
For an initial evaluation of your language ability we recommend you the online grammar-oriented language test of Spotlight. This test can, however, only serve as an initial estimate of your language ability.
Teaching schedule and times
Our standard courses have 200 teaching units which are completed within two months and cover a whole language level. It is also possible to book half courses (modules) with 100 teaching units which are completed within one month and cover half a language level. One teaching unit (TU) is counted as 45 minutes.
Regular teaching takes place at IfS from Monday to Friday with an integrated break of 30 minutes. We offer morning classes, afternoon classes and evening classes.

Exams and certificates
IfS issues its own officially recognised certificates as well as preparing students for external exams. As a licensed testing centre for TestDaF and The European Language Certificates (telc) we offer the exams for TestDaF and Zertifikat Deutsch (ZD) at regular intervals.
